It is, of course, a paradox, because the space in which such is \"not\" and, therefore, is not translatable. However, this translation represents the real challenge of our time, because by digital we are translating (even \"transport\") space \"elsewhere\". This translation is not a reproduction. On the contrary, it produces and invents new spaces by also asking us to question the very meaning of space, especially about its \"number\". Should we still talk about space or will we have to do with spaces instead? And how do digital spaces give us real, concrete spaces - the space we live in?</p>\r\n<p>This lecture is part of the program <strong>Canada-Italy Innovation Award 2019</strong> of the Canadian embassy</p>",

"content_html": "<p>The Canadian Society for Digital Humanities (http://csdh-schn.org/) invites scholars, practitioners, and graduate students to submit proposals for papers, panels, and digital demonstrations for its annual meeting, which will be held at the 2019 Congress of the Social Sciences and Humanities, University of British Columbia, from June 2-4 (https://www.congress2019.ca/). We encourage submissions on all topics relating to both theory and practice in the evolving field of the digital humanities. The opening plenary will be delivered by Professor Deb Verhoeven. The conference will close with a plenary delivered by Victor Temprano. Deb Verhoeven, currently Associate Dean of Engagement and Innovation at the University of Technology Sydney, will be joining the University of Alberta as a Canada 150 Chair in April 2019. Deb has been called Australia’s “most innovative academic,” and is a leading scholar in the field of gender and cultural informatics. Victor Temprano is a programmer and developer engaged in many activist projects. He runs Mapster, a Vancouver-based company specializing in interactive maps. In 2015, Victor created Native-Land.ca, a website which visualizes Indigenous territories, languages, and treaties, originally in Canada and now increasingly worldwide. Native-Land.ca has achieved notoriety through social media and is frequently used as a teaching tool. 2019 Program committee: Barbara Bordalejo (program chair), Megan Meredith Lobay (local organizer), Kim Martin, Susan Brown, Lai-Tze Fan, François Dominic Laramée, and Luis Meneses.</p>\r\n<p>Several chair members will participate with presentation. In the continuity with the first edition in Berlin (<a href=\"https://www.hkw.de/en/programm/projekte/2017/internationaler_literaturpreis_2017/publishing_sphere_1/publishing_sphere.php\">https://www.hkw.de/en/programm/projekte/2017/internationaler_literaturpreis_2017/publishing_sphere_1/publishing_sphere.php</a>),we’ll continue the project of experimenting writing, publishing and performances forms capable of opening new spaces of expression, exchange and creation as well as of renovating the modalities of public spaces building.</p>\r\n\r\n<p>In order to do so, we call editors, writers, artists, designers, commoneers, archivists and participants from various communities to invent alternative ways to take over the Publishing Sphere by proposing devices, apparati, texts, supports, protocols, architectures and action that renew the idea of publishing itself , till redefine its sense and political impact.</p>\r\n\r\n<p>As atelier, performance, co-writing, public speaking, booksprint, forum, wiki, fish-bowl or pow-wow, we hope for propositions exploring inscription, writing and publishing as dynamics opening new spaces. Publishing Sphere will try to put in motion a dialogue between different communities, with an editorial gesture (curation) meeting reflection and creation</p>",

"content_html": "<center><img src=\"https://www.crihn.org/files/sites/33/2018/12/Poster-CRIHN-Vitrine-HN-2019.jpg\" width=\"50%\" /></center>\r\n<br />\r\n<br />\r\n<p>For the 7th edition of the CRIHN Vitrine HN / DH Showcase, the organizers invite proposals (in English or French) for demonstration of digital humanities projects and tools. These projects can be, for instance, databases, text mining and data visualization tools, electronic publications, or mobile applications. Two sessions with 5 or 6 demonstrations are planned. Each presenter will first have 3 minutes to present an overview of their project to the whole group, before fielding questions about their projects as audience members circulate among the projects displayed on presenters¹ individual laptops. DH showcase gives both participants and the public an overview of the most recent digital humanities research, and creates stimulating discussions around tools, good practices, and research trajectories. Coffee and pastries will be served.</p>\r\n\r\n<p>Organized by Carolina Ferrer (Université du Québec à Montréal) and Jean-François Vallée (Collège de Maisonneuve), the event will take place on Friday February 1, 2019, between 9am and noon in room D-R200, pavillon Athanase-David, UQAM (1430, rue Saint-Denis, Montréal; métro Berri-UQAM). The full text of the accepted proposals will be available on the <a href=\"https://www.crihn.org/\">CRIHN</a> website when the program is unveiled on January 21st.</p>",

"content_html": "<img src=\"https://wpchaire.ecrituresnumeriques.ca/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/AfficheSeminaireEdito18-19.png\"/>\r\n<p>The <em>Écritures numériques et éditorialisation</em> Seminar resumes its annual cycle on the theme <strong> \"Architectures and Knowledge\"</strong>.</p>\r\n<p>We live in a digital space: the places we inhabit are structured by the hybridization of relationships between connected objects and unconnected objects and it is no longer possible to separate the digital environment from the rest of our living spaces. The digital writings - the set of inscriptions that constitute the digital environments, whether texts, images, databases, algorithms ... - have somehow an architectural function. The editorialization is the set of dynamics that structure and organize these writings, it thus proceeds from an architectural gesture.</p>\r\n<p>Based on these hypotheses - which are the results of the seminar's work in recent years - we want to examine the nature of architectures in the digital age. What spaces do we inhabit? How can we interpret them? What theories of architecture could help us better understand these spaces?</p>\r\n<p>An architectural analysis of contemporary spaces must take into account both the organization of unconnected and connected objects and must therefore be concerned at the same time with organizations of pre-digital architectural elements - walls, windows, doors, roads, gardens - and digital: protocols, formats, platforms. How do the digital protocols - from TCP / IP to HTTP, to the protocols of instant messaging applications or Wikis - participate in the organization and layout of the world we inhabit? "content_html": "<p>During the Open Acces international week, the CRIHN will celebrate its five years with an international symposium on the subjet: \"Thinking Digital Humanities Anew » under the direction of Emmanuel Chateau-Dutier, Enrico Agostini-Marchese, Cecily Raynor, and Michael E. Sinatra. The symposium will be held at the Carrefour des Arts et des Sciences of the University of Montréal.</p>\r\n\r\n<p>Keynote speakers:</p>\r\n\r\n<p>Eric Gidal (University of Iowa, USA); Anatoliy Gruzd (Canada Research Chair in Social Media Data Stewardship, Ryerson University, Canada); Fatiha Idmhand (Université de Poitiers, France); Elika Ortega (Northeastern University, USA); Marcello Vitali-Rosati (Chaire de recherche du Canada sur les écritures numériques, Université de Montréal, Canada)</p>\r\n\r\n<p>Since 2013, the CRIHN is engaged, through several projects, in a reflection over the two principal aims that motivate this first international symposium:</p>\r\n\r\n<p>On the practices plan: take stock of existing experiences by identifying the strengths and weaknesses of tools and platforms; experiment with the use of excavation and visualization tools; integrate these tools into ongoing and developing projects;</p>\r\n<p>At the theoretical level: to understand the impact of digital technology on the process of production and circulation of knowledge; define new reading / writing models for the humanities; deploy new content validation systems and foster new relationships between researchers, scientific communities and society.</p>\r\n\r\n<p>With the change of media, publication methods, mechanisms of visibility, access to information and circulation of content, it is the whole of our relationship to knowledge that is challenged. It is now part of a circular dynamic closely associating production, circulation and validation of knowledge.</p>\r\n\r\n<p> The call for papers for the conference \"Repenser les humanités numériques / Thinking the Digital Humanities Anew\" is based on the three axes of CRIHN's scientific programming built around the fundamental question of the transformation of human sciences by the digital humanities:</p>\r\n<ul>\r\n <li>Axis 1: Production - Digital Writing and Editorialization</li>\r\n <li>Axis 2: Circulation - Digitization and recontextualization</li>\r\n <li>Axis 3: Validation - Legitimization of contents</li>\r\n</ul>\r\n<p>We are soliciting communication proposals in French or in English relating to work in progress or work completed in relation to these three areas. Images that are at the center of the writing of contemporary cultures, strongly focused on the audiovisual. The filmmakers' experience is unique in addressing this issue. The cinema has developed by questioning ever more intensely the types of representation of the world and the relationships that it establishes with the spectators. At present, he is seizing technologies of the digital age as an industry, but draws on the most diverse cultural sources as it is an art modifying the writing of the world.</p>\r\n<p>Heir of the <i>Nouvelle Vague</i>, filmmaker François Ozon observes the uncertainties of our time, allowing us to reflect on the status of images to think about society. Each of her creations exalts the happiness of staging and presenting unique attitudes and lives that question our certainties. Ozon has a predilection for different scenes from the arts - literature, theater, music, cinema itself - and the idea of staging and performance. His fictions are marked by the mixing of genres and he produces a materialistic critique of digital life through a kind of artistic sampling.</p>\r\n<p>De là notre thèse considérant le mouvement de l’écriture ozonienne comme marqué par ce que nous nommons « scénophilie », c’est-à-dire, un état constant de productions de narration. Ce terme indique également que l’écran où se projette le film accueille les traces de processus divers et complexes (ce qui engagerait une intermédialité). "content_html": "<img src=\"http://www.crihn.org/files/sites/33/2015/07/darren-wershler-225x225.jpg\"/>\r\n<p>Our third workshop session will be dedicated to Darren Wershler project: « <b>Residual Media Depot : Between Media Archaeology and Cultural Technique</b> ».</p>\r\n<p>Darren Wershler is the holder of a Concordia University Research Chair (Tier 2) in Media & Contemporary Literature. His work focuses on the relationship between avant-garde art and writing on one hand and communication studies and media history on the other. Inside the academy, he has been a professor in both English and Communication Studies departments. He has also worked professionally as a writer, editor, designer and publisher of print and new media.
